Mumbai with kids
Every place here is researched for families: how long to stay, which ages it suits, what it costs, and what to check before you set out.
Indoor discovery or active play?
A collection-led museum visit, a timed planetarium show and a multi-hour KidZania session need different plans. Read the activity and ticket sections before committing to a second stop.
A walk or a whole outdoor day?
Waterfront strolls can be short; the national park, caves and water park need more time and separate transport decisions. Let the weather and the youngest child set the pace.
Museums & discoveryChhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
CSMVS rewards a selective family visit: choose a few galleries that connect to your child’s interests, then spend time looking closely. Natural history, sculpture, miniature painting, textiles and money offer very different ways in. The Children’s Museum adds a creative learning focus, but workshops and access to particular spaces should be checked for your date.
Museums & discoveryRBI Monetary Museum
Planning alert: a Reserve Bank notice dated 14 July 2026 announces renovation closure from 22 July until further notice. No reopening announcement was found in this check. The museum’s money, coin and banknote collections remain interesting family-learning subjects, but the descriptions below are background for a future visit, not evidence that galleries are accessible now.
Museums & discoveryDr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum
Bhau Daji Lad is a museum for understanding Mumbai through objects: miniature people, maps, models and decorative work give children concrete ways into the city’s past. Its scale and city focus make a selective visit rewarding without trying to cover an enormous national collection. Look at how people lived and worked, then relate one object to the Mumbai outside the door.
Museums & discoveryNehru Science Centre
Nehru Science Centre is a place to try, notice and try again. A child can explore senses indoors, turn movement into sound, investigate visual tricks and work with larger mechanisms in the outdoor park. Start with galleries and add a show only if it fits your child and the timetable. Mirror Gallery and Science Odyssey still carry renovation-closure notices, so neither belongs in a promised itinerary.
Museums & discoveryNehru Planetarium
Nehru Planetarium is a scheduled, seated astronomy experience, so choosing the right language and arrival time matters as much as choosing the date. The currently published programme is The Moon Mission—India’s Journey to the Moon. Pair the dome show with a few exhibits and a conversation afterwards; it is a different kind of outing from freely moving through Nehru Science Centre.
Arts & showsPrithvi Theatre
Prithvi offers a different kind of family outing: sitting close to live performance, listening carefully and watching a story unfold without a screen. The value of the visit depends on the production you select, not simply on the theatre’s reputation. A general evening play can have mature themes or a running time unsuitable for a young child, while a specifically programmed children’s production or workshop may be a much better fit. Begin with the official schedule and inspect the exact age rule, language, duration and ticket conditions. The official homepage lists theatre hours of 1 pm to 9 pm with Monday closure, but individual event listings take precedence. Do not confuse those hours with a promise that visitors can enter the auditorium at any time.
Museums & discoveryGlobal Vipassana Pagoda
The Global Vipassana Pagoda offers families a quiet architectural and cultural visit near Gorai. The golden exterior and large stone dome can spark questions about how buildings stand up and why places of meditation ask visitors to behave differently from a park. Plan a calm visit rather than an energetic play stop. The official site states that ordinary visitors view the dome from the visitors’ gallery; access to meditate inside the dome is restricted to old Vipassana meditators. It lists free entry, daily opening from 9 am to 7 pm and a ban on outside food. Because the site contains several programmes with different eligibility and timing, separate a sightseeing visit from any meditation-course plan.
Play & adventureKidZania Mumbai
KidZania at R City is a child-sized role-play city designed around trying different jobs. It works best as the main event of a day, with children choosing what interests them rather than adults trying to complete a checklist. The operator identifies ages 4–16 as the principal role-play audience and publishes separate toddler options. Its Mumbai pages include activity maps, scheduled activities and temporarily closed establishments. Check these before buying: a much-anticipated activity is not guaranteed just because it appears in an old review. Pricing can vary by duration, category and special-event date.
Museums & discoveryRed Carpet Wax Museum — verify before travel
This wax-figure attraction has historical visitor listings at R City Mall, but current operation could not be established from the mall’s official entertainment directory during our research. That uncertainty is the most useful information for a family planning a day: do not make a dedicated journey or prepay through an unfamiliar reseller until the mall confirms the business is operating, its location and the valid ticket seller. If confirmed, treat it as a short photo-oriented add-on, with the child’s comfort around realistic figures guiding the visit. This entry is retained for planning transparency, not presented as a verified open attraction.
Play & adventureSnow World — Phoenix Marketcity
Snow World is described in Phoenix Marketcity Mumbai’s own entertainment articles as an indoor snow experience at its Kurla mall. The legacy operator site identifies the venue as Freezing Rains at Snow World, historically owned and managed by Chiliad Procons. There is a current-source mismatch: the main Snow World location selector did not show Kurla during research, while mall articles and the legacy Mumbai contact page still describe it. Confirm that the Kurla branch is operating on your date, which sessions are available and who is issuing the ticket before making a dedicated journey. Do not accidentally book Seawoods in Navi Mumbai.
Play & adventureThe Game — Atria Mall
The Game adds a genuinely playful indoor stop to a Worli day: bowling, cricket and arcade games in Atria Mall, with a Tweens N Tots zone listed by the operator for younger visitors. It is a useful mixed-age choice when siblings want different things, provided parents check each activity’s restrictions before buying credit. For a first visit, choose one shared game and a short individual-game allowance. A prepaid balance can make spending less visible to a child, so agree the stopping point before the first swipe.
Play & adventureFunky Monkeys — Lower Parel
Funky Monkeys is the clearest dedicated soft-play option in this set, based in Todi Mills rather than a shopping mall. Its published rules separate younger children from the junior play area and require active adult supervision. That makes it a useful option for a child who wants to climb and play rather than browse exhibits or collect arcade credits. Plan this as the main energy-burning stop, leaving time to change socks, use the toilet and settle afterwards instead of rushing straight to another attraction.
Keep the day in one part of the city

Colaba / Fort
Mumbai’s first-time family heritage cluster: the Gateway waterfront, museum collections and the streets around Kala Ghoda. Choose one substantial indoor visit and one short outdoor stop, so children experience the neighbourhood without spending the day marching between landmarks.

Marine Drive / Malabar Hill
A coastal-view and garden cluster for families who want breathing room between cultural visits. Marine Drive’s promenade and the hill neighbourhood’s parks are separate stops; choose the combination based on walking ability rather than trying to cover the entire shore.
4 places →
Byculla
Byculla makes a focused learning day around the museum and zoo district. The attractions have separate tickets, hours and closure patterns, so select one as the anchor and add the other only if the family still has energy.
2 places →
Worli
Worli works well for a science-led family day with a coastal view as an optional extra. Keep the educational attraction as the anchor and build the rest around show schedules, meals and the child’s concentration span.
7 places →
Dadar
Dadar is a neighbourhood-and-garden choice rather than a single attraction campus. It suits families interested in everyday Mumbai, a shorter green-space visit and a meal, provided they are comfortable navigating a busy transport district.
1 place →
Bandra West
Bandra West offers a family mix of waterfront walks, neighbourhood streets and religious heritage. Bandstand and Carter Road are distinct outings; picking one gives room for a relaxed meal and time for children to notice the coast.
